This holiday season, spread some random acts of Christmas kindness and mark them off using our free printable! 

We created a random act of kindness calendar that goes all the way through the Christmas season that is perfect for kids and families. Nothing says Christmas cheer like doing a good deed. 

Doing good deeds around the holiday season is always on our Christmas bucket list. We also love making this fun Christmas countdown paper chain. Another family tradition is while we are look at light displays, we play Christmas lights bingo.

We have gather the best ideas for small acts of kindness for every day throughout the month of December. Be sure to grab our free printable list so you can check it off as you go. We have also included a blank version if you didn’t want to do every single day or skip Christmas day, eye, and NYE. You can find these at the bottom of this blog post. 

Make a card and send to the nursing home. 

You would be surprised at how many visitors do not call or come during Christmas time to see those in the nursing home. Plus, there are those without family, so making cards will definitely bring a smile to their faces. Last year, our daughter’s entire class did this and hand delivered them. It was amazing to see how much joy it brought to the facility. 

Donate old toys to a local charity.

It’s also a great way to do a Christmas clean out while teaching kids a nice gesture, since not all kids are as fortunate.

Leave a kind note in a library book.

Bake cookies for a neighbor.

Write a thank-you note for your mail carrier.

Mail carriers sure do put in some hard work during the holiday season, along with long hours. This is one of the easy ways to show kindness and great for kids too.

Donate canned goods to a local food bank.

Your local food pantry can always use non perishables and canned goods. It’s a busy time of year for them and they use many resources that they have collected throughout, just to get through this season. 

Help a family member with chores.

This is a simple act of kindness that kids can do around the house and doesn’t cost a thing.

Pay for the person behind you in line.

I was at Starbucks a year or so ago and someone paid for my drink! It was totally unexpected and such a nice gesture. I kept the chain going and paid for the person behind me. The worker said it had been going on all day!

Pick up litter at a local park.

Donate blankets or socks to a homeless shelter.

Sometimes during the holidays they take blessing bags which contains more personal hygiene and toiletry ideas.

Leave a generous tip for a server. 

While everyone can use a little extra around Christmas time, servers and waiters work extra hard with the increased traffic and they will definitely appreciate a good tip.

Read a Christmas story to a younger sibling.

Here’s a simple idea that is perfect for during week that kids can still do with little help.

Donate food or treats to an animal shelter.

Shelters always need cat food, dog food, treats, and donations. Sometimes they have more specific needs so you can reach out to your local shelter and check before donating. They are also always in the market for volunteers, so if you are on a small budget, give your time instead. 

Make and deliver holiday cards to the hospital.

It’s always a hard time when you have to spend it in the hospital, so dropping off a few cards will bring a little more holiday cheer. 

Shovel snow or sweep leaves for a neighbor.

Yard work is the perfect way to show kindness especially if it’s an older couple or elderly neighbor. 

Sing Christmas carols in your neighborhood.

Make a list of your favorite Christmas songs and hit the neighborhood for some holiday fun. See our free Spotify Christmas music playlist that has all of our favorites.

Set up a hot chocolate stand and donate to charity.

Use our hot chocolate bar printables to set up a stand, similar to lemonade in the summer time. Then choose a charity or local organization to donate all of the proceeds to. This is perfect for a cold day.

Write thank-you notes to your teachers.

Pack a shoebox of toys for kids.

Samaritan’s Purse does a drive every year called Operation Christmas Child. You choose an age group and gender, then use a shoebox to pack full of goodies. They have a recommend list, but you can also add your favorite things as well. 

Make ornaments and donate them.

Invite a single person over for a meal.

This is the perfect time to help out a single parent or an elderly widow by inviting them over for dinner. 

Babysit for free for a family.

You may choose an extended family member, family from church, or maybe a single mom who really needs to run out and get her Christmas shopping done. 

Take treats to first responders.

If you don’t have many activities happening on Christmas Eve, this is a fun way to celebrate our first responders including police officers, local fire fighters, and paramedics. 

Give someone a compliment.

All it takes is a phone call or maybe you see someone in the grocery store parking lot. One small compliment really can go a long way. 

Leave snacks out for the delivery drivers.

Take a toy to the local children’s hospital.

Head to the dollar store and grab a few small kids gifts like little toys, a coloring book, and maybe even a few treat to surprise the little ones who are spending their holiday in the hospital.

Simply write an inspirational quote on sticky notes and leave them somewhere publicly or give to an immediate family member. 

Make a meal for a family in need.

Good food is always welcomed by those in need, a homeless person, or those who may be alone for the holidays.
