How Do Advent Calendars Work

Each day starting on December 1st, you will incorporate the advent cards into your day. Some like to pair these with small toys, candy, chocolates, or other treats. Others like to have a family activity for each night leading up to Christmas Eve. There are scripture verses that lead up to Christmas Day and can be reused for the next advent season.

Some family activities we have done in the past include going to see Christmas lights, gingerbread house decorating, setting up a hot cocoa bar, make and send Christmas cards, and baking cookies. Making activity cards is a great way to get older kids involved too so they are excited and want engage in family quality time.

What Does Advent Mean?

The Biblical advent calendar refers to the period of four weeks (or sometimes a slightly different duration) leading up to Christmas. It marks the beginning of the Christian year and is a time of anticipation and preparation for the celebration of the birth of Jesus Christ. Advent typically starts on a Sunday, and each of the four weeks leading up to Christmas has a specific theme or focus, often represented by the lighting of candles on an Advent wreath.

However most use advent countdowns starting on December 1st through Christmas Eve.
