Santa’s reindeer are going to love our magical reindeer food recipe. This is a fun Christmas tradition we started years ago when our daughter’s teacher sent home magic reindeer dust before their holiday break. There are several different ways you can make the food. The first time we put it out it had just oats and glitter, so we decided to turn this special treat into one of our own!

Making the food is a fun activity for little kids, but you can also give these away as favors at your holiday party, and they make great student holiday gifts. Magic food also makes a great addition to a Christmas Eve box.

You may also want to grab our free printable advent calendar. It’s another one of our favorite Christmas traditions along with making Christmas cookies for Santa Claus.

Reindeer Food Labels

Before we get started making the food, be sure to snag our printable bag toppers and reindeer food tags. There are 3 different versions to choose from.

*These are a digital download and for personal use only.

What You’ll Need:

  • Bags – you can use a Ziploc bag or a cellophane bag.
  • Toppers and tags – adds a nice festive tough to the reindeer food bags.
  • Oats – any variety can be used.
  • Sprinkles – sugar crystals look great, but you can also choose red and green jimmies. When adding sugar sprinkles, don’t overdo it so the colors show up well.
  • Printer & Paper/Cardstock – for the printable files

printing Tips

  • For the best results, we recommend printing on card stock paper that is at least 80 lbs.
  • Check your ink cartridges before starting and print on the best setting for the most vibrant colors.

Tips for Making

  • You can also add edible glitter. Some don’t like using regular glitter, as it’s bad for the birds.
  • Instead of a clear bag, sometimes the dollar store carries clear tubes that look really cute. Small jars would also work.
  • Feel free to print the tags and poems out on sticker paper to make assembling easier.
