Normally we use games like this at our Christmas parties, but it doesn’t mean you can’t use it for your family gathering on Christmas Eve or Christmas Day. It’s a fun twist on a regular gift exchange and actually budget-friendly since everyone only needs to bring one wrapped present.

​As for the other dice game, it’s a fun way to host an exchange when you are short on time, but still so much fun to play. It’s a little bit easier, so great for all age groups. Both of these are an instant download and you will get access immediately after purchasing via email.Â

Before Starting
When you announce that you’ll be playing the party game, there are a couple of ground rules.
- Be sure everyone brings a wrapped gift.
- Set a price range. Price limits under $25 are usually appropriate.

How to PlayÂ
Getting Started
Each player randomly chooses a wrapped gift. Have everyone sit in a big circle. Start with the first player and allow them to choose a gift. You could also write different numbers on sheets of paper and choose based on that order.
No player should choose their own gift.
Playing the Game
Each person will takes turns rolling the die and follow the instructions on the printable and start trading gifts. The round is over once everyone has had a turn.
Rules
When someone rolls a 1 they can steal any gift.
Rolling a 2 means you must keep your gift and it’s the next players turn.
Everyone passes their gifts to the left when someone rolls a 3.
Switch gifts to the right when a 4 is rolled.
Unwrap your present when you roll a 5. If you end up with your own gift, swap with someone then open.
If you roll a 6, choose 2 people to trade gifts.
At the end of the game, whichever gift you are left with is yours to keep! You can also play as many rounds as you would like. At our family gatherings we each round until everyone has unwrapped their presents.
Dice Game Rules for the Longer Version
If you are using this digital file, the printable game will last longer. You can play this with any group size as well, however it does takes a little longer. If you are short on time, we recommend setting a time limit or a set number of times each player will go. If there are still family members who haven’t unwrapped their gifts, they can once the timer ends.Â
Each player will roll both die and follow the corresponding action on the game card.Â
Tips
- Use this fun Christmas game over and over by laminating the sheets and storing them for next year!
- Save ink by printing two to sheet.
- It’s a great idea to separate kids so they can play their own dice game so the gifts are age appropriate.
