✨How to Dye Easter Eggs Using Food Coloring

Set Up Your Colors: Choose the colors you’d like to use and set out a cup for each one.

Mix the Dye: Pour 1 cup of water and 1 tablespoon of vinegar into each cup. Add ½ teaspoon of gel food dye to each one (one color per cup) and stir well.

Dye the Eggs: Gently place boiled eggs into the dye. Using a spoon makes it easier to lower and remove them without splashing.

Adjust the Color Depth: Within 1 minute, the eggs will start to take on color. Leave them in longer for deeper, more intense shades.

Dry the Eggs: Carefully remove the eggs and place them on paper towels to dry for at least 5 minutes. Once dry, they’re ready to display or use!

💡Helpful Tips

  • Heat for More Intense Color: Warming the dye mixture in the microwave for about a minute can make the colors even richer, though it’s not required.
  • Adjust for Lighter Colors: Shades like yellow and orange may need extra dye for bold results—this varies by brand, so test a sample egg first.
  • Brown Eggs Work Too: This method also works great with brown or farm-fresh eggs! The colors will be richer and slightly darker but still gorgeous.
  • Cool “Firework Effect”: Older gel dyes sometimes form small “floaties” in the water. Instead of tossing it, try dyeing an egg anyway—it creates a cool firework-like design!

Who needs a store-bought egg dyeing kit when you can get gorgeous, vibrant colors with just food coloring and a little vinegar? This simple method is budget-friendly, easy to customize, and works on both white and brown eggs for a variety of stunning results. Whether you’re going for soft pastels or bold, deep hues, the process is quick, fun, and perfect for kids and adults.
