💡Helpful Tips

  • Place the printable scavenger hunts in a page protector and use a dry erase marker. This is a great idea if you are teacher, so you can reuse it over and over, or if you want to avoid getting the game card dirty as the kids hunt. You can also just put it on a clip board so it makes it easier for the kids to write.
  • If you want a more professional look or if you want the game to look a little prettier, use heavy white card stock. The paper weight will vary, but as a reference regular copy paper is about 20lbs.
  • Check your printer settings before starting for best results. No printer? Local print shops can help, and they are usually reasonably priced or you can check an online print shop.

Spring Scavenger Hunt Ideas: Helpful Tips and Different Ways to Play

Elementary age kids will have so much fun finding the items as it is. But you can also split kids into teams to have them work together. As a bonus, offer them a little magnifying glass so they can really see nature up close, or a pair of kid-size binoculars.

As for older kids, make it an extra challenge by having them use the A-Z hunt and put a them on a timer. This will definitely make things more interesting.

You could also add little prizes along the way if you have already scouted your backyard before the hunt actually starts. The kids always have a great time when we do this during our Easter scavenger hunt. We place the clues in the Easter eggs so they can find their basket.

To add in some counting skills, have them place tally marks next to the items when they discover more than 1.

Our free printable spring scavenger hunt is also great for birthday parties, because most items on the list can be found in your own backyard.

If you find yourself not being able to find the list of things around your home, you can take a bike ride to a local park or trail or a little mini field trip to another nearby spot.
