How to Use the Football Squares Grid

Each block is worth a set amount of money. Determine this before party guests write their names in.

Write the team names in the spaces at the top and on the side of the left column.

Have participants write their names in different blocks (based on how many they pay for).

This is what your finished grid would look like.

Across the top (in the first row) of the square grid, write in random numbers 0-9. They should not be in order.

The repeat this process going down vertically in the first column.

To determine the winner at the end of the first quarter, you will look at the last digit of each team score numbers and that person has the winning square. Then you will just repeat this at the end of every quarter of the game.

For example, team 1 has a score of 17 at the end of the first quarter. Team 2 has a score 19. On our grid, the winner for this quarter would be Matt.

Avoid putting the row numbers and column of numbers in order. The entire games relies on the last number on the teams’ score.

What Happens If The Football Game Goes Into Overtime?

There is a possibility and this should be discussed you start the game.

Some choose to ignore the final game score and just go off the score in the fourth quarter. Others like having 5 winners instead and do take the final score of the game in consideration, but the choice is yours there is no right or wrong way.

Other Ways to Play

A true football fan may get a little upset when you “randomly” add the different numbers across the top and down the side. So to keep it a true game of luck, write 0-9 on pieces of paper. Then draw numbers to fill those areas in.

Depending on how large your group of players or family members are, you can write different number combinations on paper, then have each one draw and those will be the squares they write their names in.

Another fun way to use the football squares game is without betting. If you are hosting Super Bowl Party, you can offer prizes or a gift card at the end of each quarter instead of betting. Divide the number of guests you have by 100 and try to give each person an even amount of squares.

Common FAQs About Super Bowl Football Squares

Super Bowl Squares is a popular game where participants purchase squares on a 10×10 grid, with each row and column assigned a unique number from 0 to 9. The goal is to match the final digit of the scores at the end of each quarter or the game.

Participants buy squares on the grid before the game starts. Once the grid is filled, numbers 0-9 are randomly assigned to each row and column. The digits of the teams’ scores at the end of each quarter determine the winners.

If your square doesn’t match the final digit of the scores, you won’t win for that specific quarter. However, you may have a chance in subsequent quarters or the final score.

Winners are determined by looking at the last digit of each team’s score at the end of each quarter. For example, if the score is 14-10 at the end of the first quarter, the participant with the square where the intersecting row and column have the digits 4 and 0 would win.

Overtime can impact the game, and some Super Bowl Squares games include an overtime period. If that’s the case, the final digit of the scores at the end of overtime is used to determine the winners.

Prizes are often awarded at the end of each quarter and sometimes at the end of the game. Payouts vary, and organizers may choose to distribute prizes for different scoring combinations.

Yes, participants can buy multiple squares, increasing their chances of winning. However, it’s essential to check the rules set by the organizer regarding the maximum number of squares one can purchase.
