While Mad Libs are a great way to add a little fun practice when it comes to parts of speech, this version is great for Valentines day parties and make a fun family activity. Younger children and those in middle school really get silly with their stories, but it’s still fun enough for older kids and adults.

Another fun Valentine’s day activity for littles are our handprint art and Valentines dot marker printables. Using printables for holidays are an easy way and obviously budget friendly idea to make the party or event extra fun.

A fun game that we can’t go without is our Valentine’s day bingo! Not only is it a fun class activity, but since they have words and pictures, any age can participate.

This digital file is an instant download that you will receive via download link after subscribing. Our printables are for personal use only. No physical product will be shipped. The free printables can be found at the bottom of this post.

📚What Are Mad Libs?

Mad Libs are the ultimate recipe for silly, laugh-out-loud fun!  Think of them as fill-in-the-blank stories where you get to be the creative genius. Here’s how it works: you’re given a short story with key words missing, and you (or your friends) fill in the missing words with random parts of speech like nouns, verbs, and adjectives—without knowing the story beforehand.

The result? A wacky, totally unpredictable Valentine’s day-themed story that’ll have everyone cracking up!  Imagine a Valentine’s Day love letter that starts with: “Dear cheesy (adjective) pineapple (noun), you make my socks (plural noun) dance!”

Mad Libs are perfect for parties, family game nights, or just hanging out with your BFFs. They’re not only hilarious but also secretly sneak in a bit of writing skills practice (shhh, don’t tell the kids!).

🌟What’s Included

You will receive one free mad libs story that is Valentine’s day themed.

💡Different Ways to Use Mad Libs

  • Play in Groups
    • Have one person collect the words without reading the story aloud. Then, once all the blanks are filled, read the story out loud to everyone. It’s more fun (and hilarious) with an audience!
  • Add a Timer
    • For extra excitement, set a timer for filling in the blanks. Quick-thinking leads to the wackiest combinations!

📌What You’ll Need

Paper – to print the story on.

Printer

Pens/pencils – to fill in the blanks. If you go with laminating, use dry erase markers instead.

*Optional – laminator or sheet protectors – this is a great way to make the printbables reusable without using tons of ink and paper. They also have self laminating sheets that are a little more expensive, but you don’t have to have the actual machine.

✨Word Guide for Your Mad Libs

Even after years of experience of writing my own story, sometimes I still need a refresher on the different types of words used. If you are the same way, consider this your cheatsheet that can be used with any Mad Lib style story.

Adjective

Adjectives are words that describe a noun. They tell us what something looks, feels, sounds, or tastes like.
Example words: silly, fluffy, shiny, pink, lovely, cold, delicious

Noun

Nouns are words that name a person, place, thing, or idea.
Examples: heart, flower, dog, park, chocolate, card, castle

Plural Nouns

Plural nouns are words that name more than one person, place, or thing.
Examples: hearts, flowers, friends, balloons, cookies, gifts

Adverb

Adverbs are words that describe how an action is done. They usually end in -ly.
Examples: happily, quickly, softly, excitedly, quietly, lovingly

Verb

Verbs are action words—they describe what someone or something is doing.
Examples: run, jump, sing, laugh, fly, skip, build

Interjections are words or phrases that express strong emotions. They are often followed by an exclamation point!

💡Helpful Tips

  • We love laminating our games so you can use them again next year.
  • For the highest quality feel use a nice heavy card stock.
  • Check ink levels before printing. No printer? Local print shops can help, and they are usually reasonably priced or you can check an online print shop.
  • If you need another size other than US Letter, check your printer settings.

Whether you are looking for a fun class party game, or Valentine’s day activities you can do from home, a silly Valentine story is just the way to celebrate!
